The 2025 Mascagni Festival — now in its sixth edition — will take place in Livorno from August 2 to September 13. The program was officially presented today at Palazzo Strozzi Sacrati in Florence.
The event featured the president of the Province of Livorno, Sandra Scarpellini; the Livorno city councillor for culture, Angela Rafanelli; and the Festival’s Artistic Director, Marco Voleri — moderated by Gianni Todini, editor-in-chief of Askanews — along with Cristina Manetti, Chief of Staff to the President of the Region.
“This year,” said President Eugenio Giani in a message read during the event, “the Mascagni Festival in Livorno celebrates a remarkable milestone: the 80th anniversary of the death of Pietro Mascagni — a composer who left a profound mark on the history of opera and made an extraordinary contribution to the musical heritage of our region and country.
This edition of the festival is not only a tribute to his music, but also a celebration of how culture can bring together generations and communities. Tuscany has always been at the forefront of cultural promotion, and the Mascagni Festival is one of the finest examples of how our land can serve as the perfect stage for events with international appeal.”
Cristina Manetti added: “After marking the centenary of Giacomo Puccini’s death, we are now preparing to celebrate another major anniversary — 80 years since the passing of Pietro Mascagni. And we are doing so through this festival, which is one of the most powerful ways to honor and promote the rich musical and cultural legacy left to us by the great Livorno-born composer and conductor.
The Festival has grown significantly over its six years of life, and still has great potential to expand. This summer’s edition offers a unique opportunity to explore — or rediscover — the legacy of one of Italy’s greatest opera composers, whose works have found new life in countless films, advertisements, and other cultural contexts. Mascagni’s music deserves to be shared with an ever broader audience, and the Festival’s lineup provides a truly unique chance to do just that.”
