The theater performance “Enzina Conte del Vertigo” presents a very special show. The creator is Alessio Pianigiani, actor, director, and teacher at the Enzina Conte School of Performing Arts. On Saturday at 9:00 pm and Sunday at 5:00 pm with “Three ways not to die” taken from the works of Giuseppe Montesano, the Neapolitan writer and finalist for the Strega Prize. He won the Napoli Prize with “In the Body of Naples” in 1999; with “This Deceptive Life” he deserved the Viareggio Prize for narrative and the Campiello Selection Prize in 2003. In 2017, he won the Viareggio Prize for essay with the book “Wild Readers”. In “Three ways not to die” Alessio Pianigiani leads us through a journey through hell, purgatory, and paradise revisited through the eyes of today, of us contemporaries but through the words of yesterday, yet still contemporary to us. Because true art is always contemporary if it can still speak to us. The symbolic journey through hell happens through the words of a poet defined as cursed but cursedly current and regenerating, to regenerate our inner self and that of the audience naturally and it is about Charles Baudelaire, his experiences and his most important and groundbreaking work in poetry: “The Flowers of Evil”. The first part of the journey, in fact, will be taken from “Monsieur Baudelaire, when will the night end?” by Giuseppe Montesano.

Then the journey will continue in a symbolic purgatory, through the origin of Theater, through Greek Theater and the Greek people who have delivered over many years of history the highest form of civilization: “words that come from the sea, come from the inner land where the sun rises and bring it to the inner land where the sun sets, and they are called Homer, Socrates, Sappho, they are called by multiple names as the World is multiple, which is one and infinite, and invent the form of our thoughts, the power in which the mind knows itself in the colorful things that surround it.” This is the wise fire and this is their legacy that still helps us not to die inside, to not be dead while alive, to remain alive, today. This part of the journey will be taken from “The Wise Fire” by Giuseppe Montesano. Finally, the journey concludes (but perhaps begins?) in a symbolic paradise through the words of the greatest poet of all time, the supreme poet, through his “Divine Comedy” but above all through the voices of Dante himself and his characters. A journey that unlike that of Ulysses, mentioned by Dante, does not end with the return to Ithaca but never ends, with the fantastic assumption: “you were not made to live like brutes, but to follow virtue and knowledge”. And learning never stops. Regenerating never stops. Through the driving force that is Love, we will learn how we can become alive again in our time. Because Dante speaks to us, Baudelaire speaks to us, the Greeks speak to us, we just need to know how to listen to them. This part of the journey will be taken from “The Voices of Dante” by Giuseppe Montesano. Lights by Ugo Zammit, audio by Roberto Pacini, assistant direction by Clarissa Marchini.
