Afro-American Music as a Tool for Social Change
Manlio Pepe Stage / Blues Space – Via Strozzi, Livorno
Young Jazz
Young Jazz is a music project born from a common passion for jazz music. The band values the excellence of young musicians, many of whom are graduates from the Pietro Mascagni Conservatory. The band consists of Gaia Volpe on vocals, Gabriele De Pasquale on guitar, Francesco Saporito on keyboards, and Pierluigi Foschi on drums. Through their musical language, the musicians convey and communicate with the youth, while remaining firmly rooted in jazz traditions and the practice of improvisation.
The repertoire rigorously and personally blends these roots with the rhythm of funk and the expressive intensity of soul.
The show offers a mix of professionalism, dynamism, and technical execution, aiming to create a shared artistic experience of high quality.
The Project
“Sounds that Change the World” is a musical event of 4 evenings that brings the transformative power of Afro-American music to the heart of Effetto Venezia, specifically targeting the new generations. Blues, jazz, soul, and their evolutions are not just musical genres: they have been – and continue to be – instruments of struggle, identity, redemption, and social change.
Each evening intertwines live music, moments of discussion and open dialogue with the young audience, showcasing how artists from the past and present have used music to challenge injustice, build communities, and inspire movements. All within the intimate and direct atmosphere of the Blues Space stage, a space that for years has fostered authentic connections between musicians and the audience.
