Jumping in the puddles at Vespucci-Colombo

The meetings organized by the Library of the “Vespucci-Colombo” Institute continue. On Wednesday, April 30th at 9pm, in the auditorium of the headquarters in Piazza Vigo, a special appointment is scheduled, as we will talk about translation and related themes.

Will be guestIlide Carmignani, one of the most important translators in Italy, who will dialogue withManuela Magnoni. The event is realized in collaboration with ErasmoLibri and Libreria Mondadori. It will be an opportunity to talk about“Splashing in the puddles”, by the sameIlide CarmignaniandElena Battista, released by Rizzoli.

The volume examines some untranslatable words that come from all over the world, such assamar, kilig, ailyak, curglaff, to indicate those simple, daily joys that in Italian have no name but that often bring more happiness than great achievements. Together they tell of “the pleasure of small things,”merak in Serbian, and offer us a fuller and more meaningful life. The sense of lightness at the end of a day’s work, the effervescence felt when talking to someone we like, the taste of trying something good straight from the stove, the energy of a dive into cool water… It is a fascinating journeyin the languages of the world, a small catalog – to be enriched as desired – of untranslatable words and (almost) inexpressible happiness.
