To remember Piero Ciampi

The access to the event in VIA ROMA is free; the audience will follow the short symbolic performance from via Roma.

Monday, January 19th at noon in Livorno, in Via Roma, in the Attias area, the traditional memorial dedicated to the great Piero Ciampi on the anniversary of his death will take place.

This is the sixth edition of the now customary ‘ritual’ which has seen various artists perform from the window of the Casa Natale of the great artist and poet from Livorno, located on the first floor of Via Roma no.1, where today there is a professional studio kindly made available by Dr. Claudia Cenerini, and from the window in front, that of the Casa Natale of the giant of painting from the early 20th century, Amedeo Modigliani, in Via Roma no.38, once again granted for the occasion by Amaranta Servizi (Casa Natale Amedeo Modigliani, 3208887044).

The first edition of this unique exhibition was held in 2018 when Beppe Scardino on saxophone and Tony Cattano on trombone played an arrangement by the brothers Andrea and Nino Pellegrini of the masterpiece signed by Gian Franco Reverberi and Piero Ciampi, “Fino all’ultimo minuto”. “A title that for us is a Ciampi motto: live truly, to the end; a manifesto of authenticity in an increasingly fake and virtual world,” says musician Andrea Pellegrini.

On that occasion, Reverberi himself unveiled the marble plaque on Ciampi’s birthplace, a project by the UNESCO Jazz Day Livorno committee in collaboration with Banda Città di Livorno and Associazione Premio Ciampi, realized with the contribution of the Municipality of Livorno from the project by architect Chiara Carboni with the logo by Riccardo Bargellini (realization by MA.GR.AF. company, installation by the construction company Saviozzi). On the plaque is written “Here was born Piero Ciampi, poet and songwriter until the last minute, 1934 – 1980”.

Scardino and Cattano also played in the 2019 and 2021 editions; in 2022 it was the turn of the poet Aldo Galeazzi with Giulio Mari and Matilde Gori Sommati on trumpets (Matilde’s great-grandfather, Aristide Sommati, was an artist and friend of Modigliani and was portrayed by him in a famous drawing); in 2023, Nino Pellegrini performed on double bass.

This time it will be Giulia Gallinari, niece of the Pellegrini brothers, who will play the melody of the famous song by Reverberi – Ciampi on the trumpet.

In the early morning, it will be possible to visit the tomb of Piero Ciampi located at the Purification Cemetery, next to the Misericordia Cemetery on Via dell’Ardenza.
