Artists against genocide

The project “Colors4Palestine” was born from an idea of Daniele Caluri, as a protest initiative aimed at raising public awareness about the ongoing situation in the Gaza Strip, which to define as dramatic is to exercise a pale euphemism.

The initial idea was to create drawings, dedications, and whatever else was requested by the author on various trade fair occasions, using only white, black, red, and green: the four colors of the Palestinian flag. In this way, the people involved, even in a recreational context, were inevitably supposed to come into contact with the issue, triggering a reflection on it.

Then, also in order not to confine the operation to a single author and to try to broaden the effect, Caluri extended the invitation to his colleagues and, more generally, to all those who wanted to contribute with their own work.
Thus, in a very few days, many adhesions from the most disparate fields arrived on the author’s personal social profiles and on dedicated Facebook and Instagram pages: many comic book authors, but also teachers, architects, ceramists, engravers, metalworkers, even musicians.

To date, the arrival of contributions is still ongoing and counts more than 90 works, including some created by the most famous and prestigious names in the international comic sector: Carmine Di Giandomenico, Bruno Cannucciari, Alberto Pagliaro, Federico Bertolucci, Federico Maria Sardelli, just to name a few. The collection takes place without a precise hierarchy dictated by the greater or lesser notoriety of the author, but as a collective outcry in which image professionals and non-professionals coexist, united by indignation and the urgency to denounce an unsustainable humanitarian situation.

The project, followed by Francesca Ricci for its implementation in collaboration with ANPI Livorno, aims to continue to focus on the Palestinian issue until the ongoing massacre ends, and to counteract its disappearance from the main media because overshadowed by other events of worldwide resonance.
