The fascinating story of Don Quixote comes alive on the stage of the Royal Opera House and on the big screen in the interpretation of the Royal Ballet. Inspired by an episode from Cervantes’ masterpiece, the ballet follows the adventures of the clumsy knight Don Quixote and his faithful squire Sancho Panza as they help a desperate young couple, Kitri (Mayara Magri) and Basilio (Matthew Ball), fulfill their love story.
The production will be curated by Carlos Acosta. The audience will be transported back in time to 17th-century Spain thanks to the sets by Tim Hatley and the evocative lighting by Hugh Vanstone, all accompanied by the arrangements and orchestration by Martin Yates of Ludwig Minkus’ compelling score.
With this production, Carlos Acosta ‒ former principal dancer of the Royal Ballet who recently celebrated his 50th birthday with an extraordinary show dedicated to his career that thrilled the London temple of dance ‒ brings to the stage all the verve and joy of Spain, following the legendary choreographic version of Don Quixote by Marius Petipa with its captivating folk dances.
Featuring the lead dancers Mayara Magri as Kitri and Matthew Ball as Basilio in one of the most spirited choreographies in the Royal Ballet repertoire, Don Quixote is a perfect demonstration of the incredible talent of the English company. Brilliant, captivating, funny, and touching, Don Quixote is a ballet rich in positive emotions and extraordinary technical virtuosity.
