THE CAGE EMBRACES THE MODENA CITY RAMBLERS

Thirty-five years of combat folk and an annual appointment that is renewed this year. At the theater everything is ready for the return of the Modena City Ramblers, to welcome together with them the Celebration of Liberation. Davide “Dudu” Morandi on vocals, Massimo Ghiacci on bass and backing vocals, Franco D’Aniello on flutes, sax and backing vocals, Francesco “Fry” Moneti on violin, guitars and backing vocals, Leo Sgavetti on accordion, keyboards and backing vocals, Enrico Torreggiani on drums and Riccardo Sgavetti on guitars can’t wait to make the beloved audience of the live club in Livorno jump and sing at the top of their lungs, as well as celebrate together the 81st anniversary of the Liberation from Nazifascism, which will take place from midnight on Saturday, April 25th.

For this special occasion, in 2025 the Modena City Ramblers toured the whole country with the “Resistant Notes” tour, celebrating together the thirtieth anniversary of the publication of the historic collective album “Materiale Resistente” and also the twentieth anniversary of the gold record “Appunti Partigiani”. This year it is repeated, with the same energy and a new tour that starts from Livorno and continues until late summer touching live clubs, squares, events and festivals.

The songs can only be small traces, little more than sonic notes of that journey that started

even before 1945, the year of Liberation, a journey often started with broken shoes and the

only baggage of a great Ideal, a journey that continues today in Democracy thanks to the sacrifice of many and the struggle of a People. Songs as modest acts of memory, whose artistic value may be debatable, but belong to culture and tradition, and whose weight has been consolidated in a certain militant imaginary. Partisan material, resistant notes. But the audience at The Cage will also dance to the sound of the band’s historic hits born in 1991 as an Irish folk group, always in love with the music and traditions of the Emerald Isle. From there, more than thirty years of success, both from a discographic point of view and in terms of live tours, in Italy and in Europe. After the forced stop in 2020 that kept the band away from their fans, accustomed to about 80 dates a year on stage, in 2021 the group returned to celebrate 30 years of career with the same spirit, with music and extreme closeness to their audience. From 2022 to 2024, in addition to Italy with many concerts, the Modena City Ramblers also played live in South Africa, Chile, Spain, Ireland, UK, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Austria, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Luxembourg, passing through the Sziget Festival in Budapest, Hungary.

The rest is the history of these days and a present that sees the special relationship between MCR and Livorno renewing itself.
