World premiere of the Canticle of Brother Francis (2026) by Fabrizio Bartalucci

Tuesday, June 23rd at 6.00 p.m., at the Cesare Chiti Auditorium of the “Pietro Mascagni” State Conservatory of Music in Livorno, the fifth event of the XIV edition of Unheard Sounds, the international festival of contemporary music curated by professors Fabio De Sanctis De Benedictis and Pietro Bittolo Bon and also made possible by the contribution of Unicoop Firenze, is scheduled.

The first part of the evening will feature the pianist Paolo De Felice, interpreter of some pages by Giancarlo Cardini, one of the most original figures in the contemporary Italian music scene.

On the program are Six operatic disguises, Impromptu, Last flowers, towards evening, and The sky in a room, in a special reinterpretation signed by Cardini himself starting from the famous song by Gino Paoli.

The second part will be dedicated to “The Herald of the Great King”, a project realized on the occasion of the 800th anniversary of the Canticle of Brother Sun.

The protagonist will be the Choir of the course “Executive practices and repertoires of the ‘900 and contemporary” of the Mascagni Conservatory, directed by Maestro Fabrizio Bartalucci.

The program will combine repertoires from different epochs and languages, from the Laudar vollio of the Laudario di Cortona to compositions by Morten Lauridsen, Paul Hindemith, Carlo Terni, and Claude Debussy, presented also through vocal elaborations curated by Bartalucci himself.

The highlight of the evening will be the world premiere performance of the Canticle of Brother Francis (2026) by Fabrizio Bartalucci, articulated in three sections – The Most High and the sky, The Elements, Man and death – and conceived as a musical tribute to the work and thought of the Saint of Assisi in the eighth centenary of the Canticle of the Creatures.
