On the occasion of the bicentenary of the birth of Giovanni Fattori, Livorno pays tribute to its most famous artist with a major retrospective exhibition set up in the rooms of the Civic Museum of Villa Mimbelli.
A unique exhibition itinerary, which spans the entire career of the macchiaiolo master: from the early youthful experiments to the masterpieces of the Livornese season, from the adherence to the Castiglioncello school to the encounter with European naturalistic currents. On display are not only iconic paintings, but also drawings and etchings, evidence of the extraordinary versatility of Fattori, capable of leaving a profound mark on Italian and European art of the nineteenth century.
Alongside the works from the museum’s permanent collection, visitors will be able to admire loans from important museums and private collections, with the collaboration of the Matteucci Institute of Viareggio. The itinerary concludes with the master’s latest, surprising works, which pave the way to the twentieth century and influence artists such as Modigliani, Ghiglia, Puccini, Viani and Giorgio Morandi himself.
An unmissable event to discover Livorno through the art of its greatest interpreter.
