Concert Project Sumatra – Big Band Style

Sumatra is an all-female big band, made up of emerging musicians and singers who all have their own personal projects and come together in this collective, to blend their art and influences, observing how they take on a life of their own and change, when given the chance.

The number of musicians varies depending on everyone’s commitments to their personal projects, but the musical assortment typically ranges from 5 to 10 people, involving instruments like trumpet, saxophone, drums, bass, cello, and multiple solo singers. This fluid collective tends to choose songs that deeply represent the participants and allow for artistic experimentation.

In the case of Effetto Venezia 2025, thanks to the theme, there will be dancing and singing, getting to know the universe of women from our region, with reimagined covers of legendary songs spanning from the 80s to today and original songs from the involved artists: extremely diverse voices and presences that will intertwine for one night. Singular lives and experiences that are allowed to shine in their truest and most uncovered form, to remind us that being a woman can mean a thousand, tiny, very different things.

The singers present will be Violet, Lapard, and Yasmin, while the musicians will be multiple, with Martina Rapisarda on drums and many others. Cover arrangements and scores by Viola Bologna (Violet), original arrangements by each respective artist.
