CONCERT OF THE ITALIAN ARMY MUSIC BAND

Sunday 25 August, 7:30 pm

Conductor M° Magg. Filippo Cangiamila

The Mascagni Terrace in Livorno will be the enchanting setting in which the Military Band, directed by Maestro Maggiore Filippo Cangiamila, will pay tribute to the genius of Pietro Mascagni and to the city with fiery veristic arrangements. This event marks an exceptional opportunity to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Band’s foundation.

The Army Band, founded in 1964, represents the institutional music ensemble of the Armed Forces. Composed of one hundred and two musicians, an archivist, a Master Conductor, and a Vice Master Conductor, all graduates of the Conservatory and selected through a national competition, the Army Band plays a crucial role both in institutional services and in intense concert activity.

Its presence has been appreciated in the most prestigious Italian and foreign theaters, including the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, the Rome Opera, and many others. In addition to performing in numerous European countries, the Band has had the honor of playing in the United States of America.

By participating in important national and international festivals and events, such as the Festival of Two Worlds in Spoleto and the International Festival of Military Bands in Modena, the Band has collaborated with world-famous artists in both classical and popular music fields.

Its repertoire ranges from celebratory music to lyric-symphonic music, with a particular predilection for original Band music. Its performance of the Italian National Anthem, faithful to the original score by Novaro, has been selected as one of the symbols of the Republic on the Quirinale’s website.
