The meetings organized by the Library of the “Vespucci-Colombo” Institute continue. On Thursday, November 20th at 6 pm, at the main hall of the Piazza Vigo location, there will be the presentation of the novel by Alessio Traversi “ADA”, recently published by Vittoria Iguazu Editora. The conversation with the author will be moderated by Riccardo Greco. The event is organized in collaboration with Erasmo Libri.
The novel begins with a scene of a girl lying unconscious in the school bathroom, with a wound on her forehead. From here, an investigation into the mysteries of adolescence unfolds, led by adults who, trapped in their roles – school, institutional, police – cannot go beyond feelings of guilt, frustrations, fatalism, rhetoric, and convenience. The result is a story of false leads and loneliness that, between farce and tragedy, between apocalyptic anxieties and cocktails, intersect around Ada’s body, blending bureaucratic language, chemical reactions, and lyrical tensions.
“ADA” is a novel that, paradoxically recalling certain elements typical of certain genres, intentionally proves difficult to categorize, being built on the deliberate choice to clash registers and languages; a tragicomic poem where only the framework remains and whose protagonists seem hollowed out from within; a text constructed like a frame around a hole, originating from the desire to oppose the stereotypes with which the school world is often represented in the narratives produced in our country, within which sensitive and heroic teachers who invariably save their students continue to abound, tender love stories born among the desks, and collections of anachronistic characters.
“ADA” is the first novel by Alessio Traversi (1973), a teacher of literary disciplines in high schools who has worked for many years in the theater as a playwright and director within companies, schools, and prisons.
