“The Island and the Time” at Feltrinelli the book by Claudia Lanteri

On Tuesday, May 7th at 6pm at Feltrinelli Bookstore in Livorno Claudia Lanteri presents “The Island and the Time” (Einaudi). Introduced by Veronica Galletta with readings by LAV (readers out loud). Introduced by Veronica Galletta, winner of the Campiello Opera Prima Award, arrives in Livorno to present her debut novel, the Sicilian author Claudia Lanteri.

The book is titled “The Island and the Time” and is a mystery set on an island south of Sicily, on the cusp of the Sixties. A mystery with an unusual structure and a tight pace that tells the key to a mystery that is first and foremost in the protagonist’s soul. The arrival of a small boat with two people on board, one alive and the other dead, breaks the routine of a place where few inhabitants have known each other forever and live bent by the struggle for survival. In the background, a modest life of fishing and meager crops, and places like the barracks or the small port, that mark its time and meaning.

But for the protagonist of The Island and the Time those days, and the investigation that followed, are a story to tell for thirty years to anyone who takes the trouble to listen: passing women, street urchins, tourists gradually changing the face of the island. Because in that handful of hours an unsolved mystery is condensed first and foremost within him.

A literary mystery outside of any canon and with a triple force: an unusual structure, a tight pace, and a rare pen.
