Appointment in LIVORNO on Friday, July 24th at 7pm in the Bellana area, then departing at 7.30pm towards the Rotonda di Ardenza
There are those who run towards rearmament and those, like EMERGENCY and FIAB, choose to cycle towards peace. EMERGENCY and FIAB launch the second edition of Pedal for Peace, a major event spread throughout Italy: accessible and open bike rides for everyone to convey a collective message against the logic of weapons and in favor of rights.
In Livorno appointment on Friday, July 24 at 19:00 in the Bellana area to then depart at 19:30 towards the Rotonda di Ardenza. Each participant will receive a sticker with the word “R1PUD1A” for their bicycle. In this way, each participant will join the EMERGENCY campaign launched in 2024, referring to Article 11 of the Constitution, which firmly opposes war and militaristic logic by the Republic. Now in its second year, with the “I object” initiative, R1PUD1A has gathered the support of more than 650 municipalities and 1,500 schools throughout Italy.
Every kilometer covered by the collective bike rides of EMERGENCY and FIAB will contribute to a national and unitary count, to cover the same number of kilometers that separate Rome from Kiev and symbolically cover the distance, building a bridge of solidarity that theoretically unites the two capitals and brings us closer to those still living in Ukraine.
“In Ukraine, in the Donetsk and Kharkiv regions, EMERGENCY’s community health workers reach people house by house, often by bike: they listen to their needs, monitor health conditions, report the most serious cases, and help those isolated by war access care. For this reason, with Pedal for Peace, the bicycle takes on an even more concrete value: in Ukraine it is a tool to bring care where war has interrupted bonds, services, and opportunities; in Italy it will be a means to engage people, cross territories, and transform participation into a collective gesture of repudiating war,” says EMERGENCY.
“Because peace, just like a collective bike ride, is built one step at a time, with the contribution of everyone,” declares Susanna Maggioni, vice president of FIAB Italy.
