New musical appointment at the State Conservatory of Music Pietro Mascagni with the concert of the String Group conducted by Maestro Chiara Morandi, scheduled for Thursday, May 21, 2026 at 9:00 pm at the Auditorium “Cesare Chiti”. The evening will offer a musical journey between the Eighteenth and Nineteenth centuries through some of the most significant pages dedicated to the string ensemble, focusing on the work of the Conservatory’s students accompanied by teachers from the Institute. The program will open with Variations on a Theme by Tchaikovsky by Anton Arensky, a chamber tribute to the great Russian composer, followed by the intense Chamber Symphony op. 110a by Dmitri Shostakovich, taken from the famous Eighth Quartet and dedicated “to the victims of the Second World War”. In the second part of the concert, space will be given to the famous Serenade for Strings op. 48 by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, one of the most beloved compositions in the string orchestra repertoire. On stage, the students of the String Group of the Conservatory will perform together with teachers Gloria Merani, Monica Socci, Lorenzo Corti and Marius Cojocariu. The initiative, with free admission, represents a further opportunity to enhance the artistic and educational work carried out within the Conservatory Mascagni, through concert experiences that put the students in direct comparison with the great repertoire and with ensemble musical practice.
