On the occasion of the Day of Remembrance, the State Conservatory of Music “Pietro Mascagni” in Livorno promotes the concert “Music gives life back”, scheduled for Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at 6.00 pm at the Auditorium “Cesare Chiti” (via G. Galilei 40, Livorno), with free admission.
The initiative, carried out in collaboration with ANPI Provincial of Livorno, ANPPIA, ANED, ANEI and ISTORECO, and with the patronage of the Municipality of Livorno and the Jewish Community of Livorno, is part of the path of attention and civil responsibility that the Conservatory Mascagni has been pursuing for years on the themes of memory and historical awareness.
An commitment that has translated, in the last few years, also in moments of in-depth study and direct experience, such as the pilgrimage of the Conservatory students to the places of deportation and concentration camps, held in May 2025.
The concert program is entirely dedicated to composers persecuted by Nazi fascism and died following deportation: Erwin Schuloff, Heinrich Mannfred, Marcel Lattés, Otto Zweig, Leone Sinigaglia, Luise Greger, and Pavel Haas. Through listening to their works, music becomes a tool of restitution and living memory, capable of restoring voice and artistic dignity to musicians whose human and creative story was tragically interrupted.
The protagonists of the evening will be the students of the Mascagni Conservatory, accompanied on the piano by Angela Panieri, in a program that offers the audience an intense and meaningful musical journey.
With “Music gives life back”, the Conservatory Mascagni renews its role as an active cultural institution in the area, capable of combining high musical training, historical memory, and civil commitment, in the sign of a conscious participation in the great anniversaries of collective memory.
