THE WAYS OF WATER

WORLD PREMIERE: Friday, January 23, 2026, at 11:00 AM – at the Granaries of Villa Mimbelli, Livorno
“The Ways of Water” is the medium-length film made by Liceo Niccolini Palli with the direction of Serafino Fasulo. The multimedia product is the result of the second edition of the three-year project “Music and Peoples” and involves all the departments of Liceo Niccolini – Palli, endorsing the nature of our Institute as the Humanities Hub of the city.
After the success of the first edition, focused on Livorno as a center of peaceful coexistence of cultures and nations, the second edition was focused on the enhancement of Livorno and its waterways.
Water captured in its metaphorical image becomes a symbol of exchange, connection, flow, metamorphosis, contact as well as a source of sound inspiration.
The film documents five stages of the city, composing an itinerary and a path of reflection, and serves as an active and experimental research laboratory.
The high schools involved in the film and their contributions:
Music high school: soundtracked and conducted sound surveys, outlining with the recordings the sound landscape of each site and providing an acoustic face of our city. They edited the soundtrack of the film, marking the time of each chapter.
Dance high school: through body installations, students interacted with the spaces involved, reflecting on the value of the relationship between space, body, and movement.
All high schools: through experimental meetings, the contributions of writers and poets who described Livorno in travel notebooks between the 1700s and 1900s were explored, following the fashion of the time. The characteristics of Livorno described two centuries ago are a continuous reflection on the convergences and divergences with the city today.

“The Ways of Water” values the transdisciplinary logic of the humanities hub; it is innovative in the ways of involving students and departments; it enhances the research and innovation activities of the dance and music departments together and beyond the performative dimension; through transdisciplinary experimental workshops, it favors the EDUCATIONAL PROCESS and endorses a DISCOVERY TEACHING that sees students as active protagonists and actors of learning. It is a gift to the city.
