Books. “Boy” by Sacha Naspini

For the cultural meetings organized by the Library of the “Vespucci-Colombo” Institute, Friday, January 23, at 6.00 pm, at the main hall of the headquarters in Piazza Vigo, Sacha Naspini presents his novel “Ragazzo” (E/O Editions). The meeting will be introduced by Francesca Luseroni and Giancarlo Belloni from Furore Cultural Association.

The book- “Ragazzo” tells the story of Giacomo and Matteo, two friends who grew up in a tough neighborhood dealing with the impact of high school, between the desire for redemption, fragility, and the search for their own identity. The impact of the first year of high school is traumatic. Especially for them, coming from the poorest neighborhood in the town. They don’t have trendy clothes or the latest generation smartphones. On one hand, Giacomo, who dreams only of one thing: growing up. Becoming strong. Getting rid of the “loser” label. He suspects that his condition is very much influenced by Matteo’s company: he is afraid of everything, every small change upsets him… Yet he is the only one there. Then comes Corinna Gentileschi: Giacomo loses his head for her, willing to move mountains just to catch a glimpse of her. Matteo is in a panic: if his friend succeeds in his intent, he will truly be alone.

Sacha Naspini (Grosseto, 1976) is one of the most recognized Italian writers for his ability to weave narrative tension and emotion. Also published abroad, he has won over audiences and critics with titles like “Le case del malcontento”, with which he won the City of Lugnano Prize, the City of Cave Prize and was a finalist for the City of Rieti Prize, “Ossigeno”, Pinocchio Sherlock Prize, City of Collodi, and “Villa del seminario”, a book presented within the titles proposed by the Sunday Friends for the Strega Prize 2023.

His writing, intense and profound, often explores family ties, adolescent wounds, and the complexities of the human soul.
