“We are an extraordinary and beautiful country, but at the same time very fragile. The landscape is fragile and the cities are fragile, especially the suburbs where no one has spent time and money for maintenance. But it is precisely the suburbs that are the city of the future, where human energy is concentrated and what we will leave as a legacy to our children.” From an interview with Renzo Piano in “Sole24 Ore”, January 26, 2014. There is much of the words of the great architect in the photo exhibition “Peripheries at the Center”, which brings to the forefront a visual and narrative investigation into the hidden heart of the Livorno suburbs. A project born from a national initiative coordinated by photographer Fabio Moscatelli, which involved three authors from Livorno: Claudia Ceccherelli, Serafino Fasulo, and Francesca Giari. Their images tell three deeply different and complementary views: Ceccherelli highlights the charm of places without human presence, places where silence speaks a language that reaches directly to the soul. Fasulo found in Stagno, less than a town but more than a neighborhood, a place to reconcile with the past, through a present full of humanity and energy. Francesca Giari, slowly crossing the eastern suburb of Livorno, encountered “a social and urban proliferation” full of poetry, of exceptionality in everyday life. The exhibition will be inaugurated on Thursday, September 18 at 6.00 pm, at the ACLI Circle of Stagno Collesalvetti (LI), in Corso Italia 51. On the occasion of the opening, the photographic volume “A suburb over a year” will also be presented, which collects the works of the three authors together with the reportages of nine other photographers involved in the project. Following, aperitif dinner by reservation (15 €) at the number 0586 942786. Opening hours of the exhibition:

  • Sunday: 10.00–12.00 / 17.00–23.00
  • Monday: 17.00–20.00
  • From Tuesday to Saturday: 17.00–23.00

Finissage on Sunday, October 19. A exhibition to reflect, through photographic art, on places often forgotten, but fundamental to understand the future of our cities.
