The story of Effetto Venezia is a story made of low and high resolution images, of interferences, of worn-out tapes, of words said and unsaid, and of the same words repeated years apart. We often try to make sense of time and the stories we tell, but in this case the only way to tell Effetto Venezia was to get lost in its lights, its colors, and its voices, in a dream of water and fire.
“A dream of water and fire” is the first part of a larger story dedicated to the history of Effetto Venezia, a festival born in 1985 in Livorno and now celebrating its fortieth year. A journey that, through the evolution of the Effetto Venezia phenomenon, aims to provide an audiovisual documentation of our territory’s memory to understand how in the last 40 years the city has changed in its social, cultural, urbanistic, and economic dynamics.
