Sunday, April 27th, at 7:00 PM, at the Theatre 4 Mori comes back on stage Testa di Rame, historic and acclaimed show of the company Orto degli Ananassi that wants to celebrate in this way the Day of Liberation.
The show is presented in collaboration with ANPI – National Association of Italian Partisans – Provincial section of Livorno, Istoreco Livorno, ANPPIA Livorno and ANED – National Association of Formerly Interned.
Testa di Rame, written by Gabriele Benucci and Andrea Gambuzza with Ilaria Di Luca and Andrea Gambuzza on stage, comes to life from the collection of documentary material and interviews with the protagonists and witnesses of the Livorno of 1945 to celebrate the life and difficulties of the deep-sea divers: little known yet crucial figures in the port life of post-war Livorno.
A few years after the Liberation, in a city to be rebuilt, Mario Cavicchi aka “Scintilla”, a deep-sea diver in love with the sea and its depths, lives with Rosa, impulsive, jealous and stubborn wife. Due to a series of misunderstandings and unexpected events, they will have to face their fears and mutual feelings. An opera that tells of love and at the same time invites to reflect on the history of our country and the struggle for freedom and reconstruction.
Since its creation fifteen years ago, the goal of this show was to bring to life a social, popular and lively fresco of the living conditions of these small-great common heroes and project it against the backdrop of the “small” love story between Rosa and Scintilla, and the great tragic story of Italy destroyed by the war.
At the time of its debut, Testa di Rame was also the first show to choose the Livornese dialect as a popular anchor, liberating it, at the same time, from the vernacular patina that had long prevented it from fully expressing its potential, including the epic declination found in the events of the deep-sea diver Scintilla. To which, however, the freshness of the line and the irony of the typical Livornian spirit always serve as a counterpoint.
Testa di Rame remains, therefore, a deep and entertaining show at the same time, to be revisited or discovered for its ability to represent, through the stories of the Livornese deep-sea divers, the harsh season following the liberation of the country from the Nazi-Fascist yoke.
