International Sailing Week

From April 22nd to May 1st
Sixth edition
Sailing, regattas, music, theater, book presentations, and much more to discover in the Sports Village

The International Sailing Week Naval Academy – Livorno City originated from the “Centennial Regatta,” which took place in 1981 to mark the institute’s first century of existence. The first edition, born from a collaboration between the Naval Academy and three city clubs (Yacht Club Livorno, Circolo Nautico Livorno, and Circolo Velico Antignano), was limited to three classes (IMS, J24, and 2.4) and saw the participation of only 20 boats.

Today, the 6th edition of the International Sailing Week Naval Academy – Livorno City confirms itself as a significant event in the landscape of national regattas. The current format of the Sailing Week had its first edition in 2017, with a new collaboration between the Municipality of Livorno, the Naval Academy, and the Committee of Livorno Sailing Clubs, joined by the Circolo Nautico Castiglioncello and the Yacht Club Cala de’ Medici, for a total of 10 clubs from the Livorno coast. Over 500 sailors are expected to compete in 13 different racing classes. Among the novelties are the regional student championship on the Tridente 16 class, which is valid as a national selection, the national team championship of the 420 class in Antignano, the national Wing Foil regatta at the Tre Ponti beach, and the Flying Dutchman in Castiglioncello. The international military teams competing in the Naval Academies Regatta will be 23, coming from four different continents. Over 20 boats will be on the starting line on Sunday, April 23, for the longest regatta in the Mediterranean, the Naval Academy Regatta, covering over 630 miles on the Livorno-Porto Cervo-Capri-Livorno route. The Sailing Week will conclude on Monday, May 1, with the regatta of the Hansa 303 Paralympic class, the Vintage Sails in Rosignano, and a sail along the Livorno coastline. The prize-giving ceremony and closing ceremony will take place at 5:00 PM in the Cadet Square of the Naval Academy.

Among the on-land events, in addition to the sports village at the Mascagni Terrace, rich in musical and cultural events, there will be visits to the Naval Academy and Nave Italia, the CICLOVELA cycling tour, the Academy’s fanfare, and much more.
