IR’ COLLEGIO DER’ CORALLO

What would happen if all the elderly were suddenly forced to go back to school at their age? This is the theme of “Ir’ collegio der’ corallo”, a vernacular comedy by Alessio Nencioni for Compagnia La Carovana, on stage Sunday, April 14 at 4 pm at Cinema Teatro 4 Mori, as part of the 2023/2024 festival organized by Compagnie Livornesi Riunite. “The show – explains Nencioni – tells of a law suddenly enacted by the Government that requires all pensioners to have at least completed fifth grade education. As we know well, those who are very old today have only completed first or second grade. But here the law imposes a choice: catch up on studies or pay a fine for unjustly received pension years. So Livornese families try to encourage their elderly to go back to school.” All of this, naturally, within a super entertaining context. “The ridiculous – continues the author, director, and performer – is that even relationships are reversed: the old become children, even in language: ‘Have the kids come?’ is heard referring to octogenarians”.
And the surprises do not end here. “The comedy lasts an hour and a half, so we added about 45 minutes of entertainment to reach the classic 2 hours. Following that, there will be a variety show with skits and songs in vernacular.”
