On Sunday, March 10, at the Artistic Center Il Grattacielo in via del Platano, the film “Sacco and Vanzetti” by Giuliano Montaldo (Italy-France 1971 – 2h00m) will be screened. Elena Franchini introduces the film. The appointment, as usual, is at 9.15 am for breakfast, while the screening of the film will start at 10.30 am. Entrance ticket: 8 euros, breakfast included.

Directed by Giuliano Montaldo, starring Gian Maria Volonté and Riccardo Cucciolla, the film tells the unfair death sentence verdict against the two Italian anarchists Ferdinando Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti, accused of armed robbery and murder, which stirs emotion and anger worldwide. Sacco worked as a laborer in a shoe factory, while Vanzetti, also known as Trômlin, after travelling extensively in the United States doing various jobs, bought a cart from an Italian for selling fish and did this job for a few months. The outrage over the conviction becomes even greater when, for seven long years, all requests for a new trial and review of the judgment made by the defenders of the two defendants are preordainedly rejected. The final execution will not remove the heavy suspicion that Sacco and Vanzetti were judged more for the alleged danger of their political ideas than for the charges brought against them. The film was awarded at the Cannes Film Festival and won 3 Silver Ribbons.
