New Barrio Street Festival 2026

For two days, on the 24th and 25th of July next, the GARIBALDI neighborhood will become a large public space dedicated to music, meeting between cultures, socializing and participation

For two days, on the 24th and 25th of July next, the Garibaldi neighborhood will become a large public space dedicated to music, meeting between cultures, socialization and participation. The Nuevo Barrio Street Festival, event promoted by Mezclar22 APS as part of the “Garibaldi Rinasce” project, funded by the Region of Tuscany and realized with the support of the Municipality of Livorno, and which this year takes the place of Effetto Garibaldi.

The festival was presented this morning at the Mezclar Café premises in the presence of the Tourism and Commerce Councilor Rocco Garufo and the Social Policies Councilor Andrea Raspanti. Among others, Filippo Del Bubba for the Mezclar22 association and Antonella Cenci from the Pontino San Marco Committee were present.

“The ‘Garibaldi Rinasce’ project, made possible by the opportunity offered by the Tuscany Region, represents – commented Councilor Garufo – the result of a shared path between institutions and associations that focuses on strengthening an already rooted and active social infrastructure in the territory. New entities, operating both in the social and commercial fields, have joined a consolidated associative network, which promotes quality initiatives, giving life to a collaboration that is not only expressed only in the Nuevo Barrio event, evolution of the previous Effetto Garibaldi experience, but that will continue throughout the year, through cultural, spectacular, educational and social activities, aimed at different segments of the community.

The goal is to ensure continuity in activities. This approach represents one of the key elements of urban regeneration: not only the regeneration of physical spaces, but also the enhancement of relationships and the social fabric that animates them. Strengthening the community is the most effective and lasting response to safety issues.”

In his speech, Councilor Raspanti focused on the importance of “a strategy of urban regeneration and participatory security focused on recovering socialization within a neighborhood. I am convinced that combating degradation does not only depend on law enforcement agencies, but on the active management of public spaces by local associations through co-design and social animation. Thanks to regional funding and the work of municipal offices, the administration aims to transform the layout of the main square, eliminating precarious structures in favor of permanent physical spaces that ensure continuity in civic activities. In essence, a subsidiary model is promoted in which collaboration between institutions and territorial entities becomes the essential tool to restore transparency, security, and vitality to the community.”

Nuevo Barrio Street Festival represents the first major public event of the urban and social regeneration project that, from July to December 2026, will involve associations, Third Sector organizations, foreign communities, residents, shopkeepers, and institutions in a shared path of valorization of the neighborhood. The agenda includes social animation activities, educational workshops, intercultural initiatives, spread theater, public meetings, and paths dedicated to children, families, and the different communities present in the neighborhood, with the aim of building a model of participatory urban regeneration capable of strengthening the sense of belonging, improving the perception of the neighborhood, and promoting Garibaldi as one of the liveliest and most multicultural places in the city.

The festival arises from a simple but ambitious idea: to restore the historic role of the Garibaldi neighborhood as a meeting place for people, cultures, and communities, enhancing what the neighborhood already is today and contrasting the often reductive image that has accompanied it in recent years.

It is in fact one of the most multicultural neighborhoods in the city, where communities from numerous countries coexist daily, a rich associative fabric, and a network of commercial activities that continue to keep neighborhood life alive. The festival aims to highlight this human and social heritage, narrating it through culture, music, and participation.

The streets involved will be Via della Pina d’Oro, the first stretch of Via Terrazzini, and Piazza dei Mille, transformed for two days into an urban path dedicated to culture, music, craftsmanship, and conviviality. In addition to this, there will be several dining points, thanks to the collaboration with the restaurant “il Sottomarino,” the trattoria “La Pina d’Oro,” and the bistro “Frankie Pub,” which, together with a food truck called for the occasion, will offer the public the opportunity to taste some typical dishes from the Livorno area and beyond.
