I can’t, I have to do Mayor Von Frinzius’ business

At 10:00 PM

Our new show, co-produced by the Teatro Goldoni Foundation, is “I can’t, I have to do”: a phrase that represents a way to avoid annoyances, slow down the pace, take up space or even oppose the system through inaction.

It is an expression that also becomes an existential defense: an ironic and poetic way to face pain and death, typically Labronian, mixing grotesque and comedy like in a cacciucco. As in the typical Livorno recipe, in the show there are completely different ingredients that blend together creating unique nuances and contrasting moments: first laughing and then crying in a succession of emotions.

The show “I can’t, I have to do” is an energetic, ironic and deeply human theatrical work, which brings to the stage the distinctive trait of the company: a direct and unfiltered theater. The title jokingly recalls a typical phrase of everyday language (“I can’t, I have things to do”), but in the show it becomes the symbol of all the excuses, fears and limits — real or self-imposed — that often prevent us from living fully. The company flips this concept, turning it into an explosion of vitality.

On stage, there are moments of comedy, surrealism, and poetry, with a narrative made up of sketches, music, movement, and improvisation. The actors — many of whom have disabilities — bring an authentic and powerful stage presence, breaking every traditional theater scheme. The result is an engaging show that makes you laugh, but also reflect on the value of diversity, inclusion, and the freedom to be oneself.

The language is deliberately direct, sometimes provocative, but always sincere. There is no classic linear plot: instead, it develops as a flow of situations and images that tell about life, relationships, and human contradictions.

In summary, “I can’t, I have to do” is not just a theatrical show, but an emotional experience: chaotic, lively, and authentic, capable of leaving the audience with a smile and some more questions.

The show premiered at the Teatro Goldoni in Livorno on May 7 and 8; a short preview was presented on April 26 for Moby and on May 15 a shortened version saw the stage at the Arena di Verona. Replicas are scheduled, in the summer version, from July to September 2026.

BIO MAYOR VON FRINZIUS

We are a Livorno theater company active since 1997 and directed by Lamberto Giannini, Rachele Casali, Silvia Angiolini, and Sofia Puccini.

After collaborating with the OAMI Livorno association, we are an independent association since 2022, the Mayor Von Frinzius APS.

Our shows are co-produced by the Fondazione Teatro C. Goldoni in Livorno.

Every year, about 80 actors (with and without disabilities) perform on the wonderful stage of the Teatro C. Goldoni, which we are now proud to call “home”; in fact, we are the only resident theater company.

We rehearse tirelessly, we get excited to the fullest, we bring on stage glimpses of authenticity that release a unique energy that distinguishes our performances.

Over the years, besides being invited to numerous festivals, we have also won national awards — among others: Tutti pazzi per il Teatro (Benevento), Premio Nazionale Beppe Occhetto (Alba), Premio Giovanni Soldini and the Festival Il Giullare di Trani in 2018, 2022, 2023, and 2024 editions.

Over time, we have also filmed TV commercials, held open classes for the public and in prisons, participated in TV programs, and held conferences, also internationally.

Since 2016, we have collaborated with Paolo Ruffini and with him we have toured Italy with several shows; on May 2, we were at the Arena di Verona with the latest production.
