Livorno, discovering the ancient crafts of the port: a tour between Venice and Pontino

A journey into the past of the city, following the traces of the ancient crafts linked to the port of Livorno and the activities that have animated the historic districts for centuries. This is the proposal of a new and original tour that starts from the heart of the seventeenth-century Venice district to accompany participants in the discovery of places, stories, and traditions linked to the Livorno port life.

The itinerary includes first of all access to the Museum of Boats of the Northern Tyrrhenian Sea Port Authority, where it will be possible to admire the last remaining small boat in Livorno, along with other historic boats.

The walk will then continue through the historic neighborhoods of Venice and Pontino, rediscovering, in the places where they once practiced their trade, the porters and many other professions linked to the port and the city’s life.

The tour will finally arrive at a charming and characteristic water-level cellar, where participants will meet Fulvio Pacitto, the last Ax Master of Livorno. It will be him, through the memories of the “city that was”, to tell the story of this ancient craft and to offer a practical demonstration.

Information and bookings

The tour lasts two hours, from 4 pm to 6 pm, and costs 12 euros per person.
