The Island of Palmenti: guided tour and visit to the archaeological area of Tigghielle

The island of the palmenti: guided excursion and visit to the archaeological area of the Tigghielle. Capraia could be defined as the island of the palmenti, ancient tanks carved into the rock and used for pressing grapes and wine production. An itinerary immersed in the Mediterranean scrub will allow us to visit Le Tigghielle, the small archaeological area where the most numerous core of palmenti is located and understand the meaning of these artifacts in the historical, economic, and social context in the past. Imagining the life and appearance of the Capraia of the past, we will reach the locality Il Piano, a splendid natural basin protected by the reliefs and an ancient site of colonization, testified by the presence of the small church of Santo Stefano Protomartire. Here we can admire the vineyard landscape, which still characterizes the agricultural areas of the island.
