“Summa. States of Mind” is the title of the retrospective exhibition dedicated to the Livornese artist Ivo Lombardi scheduled at the Fattori Museum – Granai Villa Mimbelli in Livorno from July 6th (vernissage at 6:00 pm) to August 18th. The exhibition – organized by the Municipality of Livorno with the contribution of Fondazione d’arte Trossi Uberti (Livorno), Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Volterra and presented by the critical text of Giancarlo Bertoncini – tells the artistic journey of Lombardi from his beginnings in 1963 to the present day. In fact, in the rooms of the first floor of the Granai, about a hundred works including installations, paintings, artists’ books, drawings, engravings, original graphics, and sculptures will retrace Lombardi’s research, always engaged with his art in exploring themes such as the environment, memory, conflicts, and poetry. Visitors will be able to discover the early works of the 1960s dedicated to the changing cities, the 1970s when industrialization was a strong theme, the works where matter and forms are protagonists like “Affioramenti” and “Terre di Cuoio” from the 1986-1996 decade. Then moving on to crucial works like “Observing the planet” (1998) or “For future memory” (1999), passing through the cycle of artists’ books and the one on the Metamorphoses of language, both started in the 2000s. Also present, among others, the “War Games” of 1999 (recently revisited) and the works dedicated to Emigrations, started in 2006. Finally, there will be more recent works created during the Covid-19 pandemic, representing a suspended time, with numerous large-format works and artist’s books on the same theme.

The exhibition path will also be dotted with site-specific installations such as “The fall of the rebel angel,” “The luminous books” (2019), and finally, a large installation on the world of bees and the role they play on our planet; a scenographic work in which the environmental commitment that has always characterized Lombardi’s poetics emerges strongly. The exhibition, with free admission, will be open until August 18, 2024, during the museum opening hours: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 10 am to 1 pm and from 4 pm to 7 pm. The exhibition will have a catalog available with a wide gallery of images and a detailed critical anthology.
