The Beautiful Summer, the crafts of cinema

All meetings will be free and open to the public

The review La Bella Estate, the professions of cinema resumes on Tuesday, July 30 at 6.30 pm with the first of the five appointments dedicated to the world of cinema, organized at the Labronica Library located in Villa Maria, Center of Documentation on the Performing Arts.

Promoted by the Municipality of Livorno and realized by the Itinera Cooperative in collaboration with Fisar Livorno, Cinema Theater 4 Mori and FIPILI Horror Festival, the review will see, as every year, the participation of some wineries in the area – Gimonda, Fortulla, Podere Nannini, Sant’Agnese Farm, and Colline Albelle – which will offer, at the end of the meetings, a wine tasting of the produced wines.

The Bella Estate review, an in-depth analysis of cinema professions, will focus this year on women in cinema and TV series, particularly appreciated by the audience, and will also address the documentary as an audiovisual and artistic product.

Three of the appointments will be followed by the screening of the film by the guest directors, which can be seen by moving to the Cinema in Villa at the Arena Fabbricotti.

It starts with the director Manfredi Lucibello, on Tuesday, July 30 at 6.30 pm, in the meeting titled From the documentary to the feature film, in dialogue with Alessio Porquier, founder and artistic director of FIPILI Horror Festival.

The meeting will conclude with a wine tasting produced by the Gimonda Agricultural Company in Terricciola; following that, at 9.30 pm, the screening at the Arena Fabbricotti of the film Non riattaccare, directed by Lucibello in 2024 and whose screenplay is based on the novel of the same name by Alessandra Montrucchio, starring Barbara Ronchi and Claudio Santamaria.

The second appointment will be on Thursday, August 8 at 6.30 pm, on the topic Translating and subtitling TV series, with Valeria Cervetti, translator, adapter-dialogue writer and subtitler: born in Livorno, since 1999 she has been involved in adapting and subtitling over 800,000 minutes of audiovisual products. Interviewed by Fabia Barbieri, professional translator, the event will conclude with a tasting of Tenuta Fortulla.

Director Milena Cocozza will be the guest of the third appointment of the review. The meeting on Friday, August 9 at 6.30 pm, will offer reflections and comparisons on one of the most beloved television products by the small screen audience, TV series, and will be introduced by Guglielmo Favilla, actor of cinema and theater. Milena Cocozza is the director of “I delitti del Barlume” and “Mare Fuori”. The meeting will conclude with a tasting with Podere Nannini.

On Monday, August 12 at 6.30 pm we will meet again with director and screenwriter Francesco Bruni, a loyal guest, already present in previous editions. Bruni returns to the stage of Villa Maria to present the Second Level Master of the University of Pisa which, starting from January 2025, will be held in the library premises. It will be titled Writing for TV series and will be organized by the Department of Philology, Literature and Linguistics. They will talk about it together with him, Roberta Ferrari, director of the Department, Roberta Cella, director of the Master, and Gloria Penso, responsible for Educational Unit. The tasting will be provided by Fisar Livorno with Sant’Agnese Farm. Following that, Cinema in Villa at the Arena Fabbricotti with the screening at 9.30 pm of the film by Bruni, Noi 4, 2014, with Ksenia Rappoport and Fabrizio Gifuni, with an introduction by the director.

The last appointment of the La Bella Estate review, the professions of cinema, will be on Monday, August 19 at 6.30 pm with director Giulia Giapponesi who, in dialogue with visual artist Valentina Restivo, will delve into the theme of documentaries, and will conclude with a wine tasting by FISAR, in collaboration with Colline Arbelle of Riparbella. And then Cinema in Villa at the Arena Fabbricotti with the screening of the docufilm Bella Ciao, For freedom, 2022, directed by Giapponesi.

The opening of the review will be on July 30 at 5.30 pm with the inauguration of the exhibition by photographer Manuela De Rosa titled In Praesentia, visitable until September 30 in the library premises. Graduated in literary and artistic subjects, De Rosa works on themes of identity, unconscious, vision, censorship, body, and environment through projects of digital and analog photography, performances, and videos, dedicating herself to reportage photography at events and shows. She has exhibited in national exhibitions and festivals, including the Wire Festival in Rome, the contemporary art exhibition ArtInsolite in Lajatico, and recently at the first edition of the Festival of Female Photography The other woman, held in Livorno last September.
