Thursday 14 and Friday 15 March, at 10.00
At the Mascagni Conservatory in Livorno
Master class
“IMPROVISE, COMPOSE, INTERPRET JAZZ”
Featuring jazz pianist, composer, and arranger
Enrico Pieranunzi
Enrico Pieranunzi, one of the most well-known and appreciated Italian musicians in the world, will participate and perform, on Thursday, March 14 and Friday, March 15, at 10 am, at the Conservatorio Mascagni in Livorno, in the master class “Improvise, compose, interpret jazz”.
The three verbs that give the title to this master class indicate three aspects of making music, inseparably and dynamically linked to each other. The jazz musician, and in particular the pianist, is asked a lot: to be not only an instrumentalist but also, in some respects, an arranger and composer, and of course to be able to interpret the music being played.
Enrico Pieranunzi will explain both theoretical and practical aspects of performance, through exercises, such as the deepening of the three musical actions, improvisation, composition, and interpretation, and their mutual interaction amplifies the narrative and communicative effectiveness of jazz expression.
Enrico Pieranunzi was born in Rome in 1949. Pianist, composer, arranger, he has recorded over 70 CDs under his name, ranging from solo piano to trio, from duo to quintet, and collaborating, in live concerts or recording studios, with Chet Baker, Lee Konitz, Paul Motian, Charlie Haden, Chris Potter, Marc Johnson, Joey Baron.
Awarded as the best Italian musician in “Top Jazz,” annually announced by the magazine “Musica Jazz” (1989, 2003, 2008, 2020) and as the best European musician (Django d’Or, 1997) Pieranunzi has brought his music to stages all over the world performing in the most important international festivals, from Montreal to Copenhagen, from Berlin and Madrid to Tokyo, from Rio de Janeiro to Beijing.
The master class is also open to musicians external to the Conservatory.
