The Umbrian Puppet Theater with the new show “The Little Prince. Journey among the planets”
Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th November, at Teatro 4 Mori in Livorno (shows at 3pm and 5.30pm; information 347.0002029; teatrodeiburattini.it), the Umbro Puppet Theater will present the new show “The Little Prince. A Journey through the Planets”. An eternal story, but in the reimagination of the fable proposed by the Umbro Puppet Theater, the aviator conceived by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry teaches children the value of friendship and respect for others, the principles of inclusion, and the ability to rediscover the child hidden within each of us.
The ancient art of puppets will present the story in a modern key, with a 75-minute show that has received great audience feedback and media attention during previous tours throughout Italy. The Little Prince, brought to the big screen by Mark Osborne’s film in 2015, has the task of conveying a message against bullying and in favor of social integration, a theme that is increasingly relevant and important, especially among the younger and more vulnerable age groups exposed to dangers both online (cyberbullying) and in social environments.
The show tells the story of an aviator who crash-lands in the Sahara desert, far from civilization, without food or water. Here, he will encounter a blond, beautiful child: the Little Prince. It is he who will tell us about his travels from one planet to another, where he will meet strange characters who highlight the ridiculous side of human concerns. Through his stories, he will teach us how to live and, through a wonderful journey of honesty and imagination, how to rediscover the child hidden within each of us.
The uniqueness of the show lies in its ability to tell a timeless story, read by generations of people around the world, through the ancient art of puppetry that still manages to touch and entertain, leaving room for children’s imagination. But that’s not all. Another unique aspect is the original storytelling interspersed with live dialogues and songs. The company has decided to engage the younger audience by speaking their language, the language of the new generations who spend their time on the internet, in front of smartphones, or playing with Playstation. But this time, it will be different. Children will have a new experience, live, through a new language, that of puppets, which for many will be completely new.
The life-sized puppets used by the Umbrian company are made of wood and hand-painted, true works of art created by an elderly craftsman from Turin. The music for the show, all original compositions, is by Giuliano Ciabatta, also known as “Paco,” a musician and composer with prestigious collaborations with nationally renowned artists, including Lucio Dalla.
The Umbro Puppet Theater, directed by Andrea Bertinelli and Vioris Sciolan, has a long history of performances throughout Italy, from Piedmont to Sicily, and is now embarking on new regions as part of their winter tour, starting in Tuscany before reaching other Italian regions.
