The Modena City Ramblers are back in Livorno with Resilient Notes, the new 2025 tour that is already sold out at The Cage. The concert of the beloved group, which traditionally celebrates the anniversary of the Liberation Festival from Nazi-fascism at the small theater of Villa Corridi, will have a special meaning this year. Thursday, April 24th marks the ten-year anniversary of the death of Garibaldo Benifei, a partisan, glorious flag of Livorno’s anti-fascism and a great friend of the city’s live club. The Cage has always been committed to promoting democratic values and the fight against fascism in all its forms, organizing themed meetings and events every year in collaboration with Anppia Livorno, of which Garibaldo Benifei was president. Born in 1912 in Campiglia Marittima, Benifei knows the ferocity and brutality of the fascist hand since childhood, and dedicates his whole life to building a democratic state and realizing a fair and war-free society. A key figure even on the day of his death, which occurred shortly before the anniversary of Italy’s Liberation, the Livorno partisan will be at the center of the celebrations this April 25th not only as a symbol, but also as an illuminating beacon of an increasingly dark historical moment where winds of war blow again. “After ten years, his message to all of us is to have faith in the future and in the fight to achieve the ideals of freedom and democracy. Garibaldo did not “sit down” after 1945, but instead, he dedicated himself to peace for his entire life,” emphasizes Renzo Bacci, president of Anppia Livorno, who will participate in the event organized by The Cage – because, like all partisans who had no choice and found themselves forced to take up arms, he hoped that the Second World War would be the last to be fought and was a strong supporter of disarmament. The constant commitment of Garibaldo Benifei and his wife Osmana Benetti to building a free and peaceful world is more relevant than ever today, and it is the power of their memory that will be at the center of the event at The Cage. That’s why the concert of the Modena City Ramblers will be a joyful and committed musical event, with those songs that become every night the anthem of a single people who recognize themselves in the Constitution and in the founding ideas of the Republic, values experienced in a kind of secular communion of horizons that erases stage and distances.
