Florilegium Vocis at the Polyphony Review of the City of Livorno

Appointment then for Saturday, December 2nd at 21:00 in San Ferdinando.

Admission is free.

Second appointment with the Rassegna di Polifonia “Città” di Livorno (Polyphony Review “City” of Livorno), which celebrates its XX edition this year. The season of vocal polyphony events, organized by the “R. Del Corona” Choir under the artistic direction of Luca Stornello, and supported by the Municipality of Livorno and a long list of public and private organizations, has distinguished itself over the years for its great attention to the quality of the proposals, always rewarded by the audience’s attention. On this occasion, we will be able to listen to the concert of the Puglian Choir “Florilegium Vocis” directed by Maestro Sabino Manzo, on Saturday, December 2nd at 9pm at the Church of San Ferdinando, in piazza del Luogo Pio.

The program presents an interesting alternation between medieval lauda and contemporary music, in search of synergies and resonances, with the suggestion of texts by the poet Maria Pia Latorre from Bari. Quoting Maestro Manzo, “…an extraordinary opportunity to listen to two seemingly distant and distinct musical worlds such as Cortona laudi and contemporary choral music. From this, albeit strange encounter, arises a path of musical and emotional intentions: the sacred texts of the performed pieces and the poetic readings by the poet Maria Pia Latorre of Bari, will allow us to enter a world of sensations where music and words blend in a unique embrace”.

The Bari ensemble is one of the reference groups of southern Italy’s choral scene, with a highly important national activity that combines great musical quality with a refined attention to program proposals, the result of constant research carried out by Maestro Manzo. Numerous discographic productions should be highlighted, including those dedicated to Puglian composers.

So, mark your calendar for Saturday, December 2nd at 9pm at San Ferdinando. Admission is free.

Florilegium Vocis Choir – The vocal ensemble active since 2000, is one of the reference ensembles of the Puglian choral scene. It has long been engaged in concert activities and in the study of sacred and profane a cappella and concerted choral repertoire. It has been invited to numerous national and international festivals and reviews, with great critical acclaim and public response. Since 2015, it has performed, with the Baroque Orchestra S. Teresa dei Maschi, the first performances in Puglia of important historical baroque works: Bach’s Johannes Passion, Easter and Christmas Oratorios; Monteverdi’s Vespro della Beata Vergine, Handel’s Messiah. The commitment to research and performance of unpublished music by Puglian composers is important: Fago’s Psalms and Magnificat; Nenna, Felis, Radesca’s villanelle and madrigals; Cafaro’s Responsories. Since the same year, there has been a collaboration with the Toccata Classics record label in London for the recording of a series of productions dedicated to Puglian composers.
