Vintage Effect

Vintage Effect is a project that falls within the broader documentation activities of the history of Effetto Venezia curated by Marco Bruciati on behalf of LEM Foundation and City of Livorno.

This specific project is carried out by 8mmezzo, a cultural association APS founded in Livorno in 2015, whose mission is to recover old family films shot on 8mm, super8, and 16mm film from the thirties to the late nineties.

“Effetto Vintage!” is an open call to owners of films and magnetic tapes (VHS, MiniDV, Hi8, VhsC, etc.) that have privately filmed the neighborhood of Venice and the surrounding areas, especially the past editions of Effetto Venezia in all its forms.

8mmezzo has asked for old films documenting the neighborhood in general, events, installations, exhibitions, shows, recreational, convivial, sports, cultural events, and family moments filmed mainly in the neighborhood. The association is committed to digitizing the films for free and returning them to the owners, then adding them to the already rich and valuable archive created: over 200 thousand meters of films already digitized and archived.

The objectives of this operation are multiple: involve the citizens of the City of Livorno in an action to recover the historical memory connected to their city; save the audiovisual material that would be lost or deteriorated, by collecting, digitizing, cataloging, and properly archiving it; return the collected material to the city of Livorno through a montage film that will be screened at a public event in Livorno.
