On Friday, February 23 at 5pm at the Livorno City Museum, a conference titled The great lizard by Pino Pascali: between fable, play and fake sculpture will be held by Marco Tonelli, art historian and professor at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Venice. Giovanni Cerini, Head of the Department of Cultural Activities, Tourism, Museums and Foundations of the Municipality of Livorno, will introduce the conference. The conference focuses on one of the most iconic and precious works in the permanent collection of the Civic Museums, acquired by the Municipality of Livorno during the last edition of the Modigliani Prize in 1967-68.

Marco Tonelli (Rome, 1971), art critic and historian, has curated catalogs and exhibitions of contemporary art including: Giuseppe Penone, Fabrizio Plessi, Bill Viola, Candida Höfer, Paolo Canevari, Gianni Asdrubali, Loris Cecchini, Ugo La Pietra, Giorgio Griffa and served as Councilor for Culture for the Municipality of Mantua. From 2019 to 2023 he was Artistic Director of Palazzo Collicola and the Gallery of Modern Art in Spoleto, as well as from 2020 to 2023 Secretary of the National Committee for the celebrations of the Centenary of the birth of Giovanni Carandente. He was Commissioner of the Quadriennale di Roma and Artistic Director of the Montelupo Fiorentino Museum Foundation. Among his most recent publications: Pino Pascali. The sculpture and its double (2023); Giuseppe Penone. Drawings (2021); The sculpture of Alberto Burri. Inverse work, (2020); Leoncillo: Small diary 1957-1964 (2018); Francis Bacon. The literary atmospheres (2014). Participation in the conference is free of charge.

It is also worth mentioning that every Saturday and Sunday at 5pm, guided tours are always available provided by the Itinera, Agave and CoopCulture cooperatives, and advance booking is recommended.
