And on Sunday the film THE WIND BLOWS ROUND by Giorgio Diritti (Italy 2005 – 1h50m) will be screened. The film will be introduced by Federico Lenzi.

Set against the backdrop of the harsh and breathtaking landscapes of the Alta Valle Maira, in the province of Cuneo, a story unfolds revolving around the themes of diversity, seen as both opportunities for growth and exchange as well as isolation, defeat, and ‘war’. The wind blows round is spoken in three languages (Italian, French, and Occitan), released in theaters two years late, and became a tremendous cinematic success.

“The story develops in a choral dimension where two entities stand out; the ‘town’ and the family of the French shepherd. The arrival of the former teacher takes on a particular meaning for the rebirth of the village, depopulated by emigration. Nevertheless, the integration between the identities and life motivations of the various characters in the story is anything but easy. Human limitation also manifests itself in the face of the noblest projects and great dreams. In the folds, conflicts nest, envy arises, old closures resurge; hypocrisies that grow, feeding on themselves, to the point of transforming the French teacher into an intruder, into someone different, in the eyes of many. Without contact, exchange of values, and welcome, there can be no human development and quality of existence, and it seems inevitable that this can only be achieved through turmoil, that only the tragic dimension can awaken in man a conscience, from which a dimension of hope and trust can sprout”.
