Cinema at Breakfast is organized by the Centro Studi Commedia all’italiana, 50&Più University of Livorno, FiPiLi Horror Festival, Circolo KInoglaz and Erasmo Libri, with the participation of the Municipality of Livorno.

Times: Sunday morning (9.15 breakfast – 10.30 film screening).

Sunday, February 25, for Cinema at Breakfast Season 2, the film (in original version, subtitled in Italian) WOMEN ON THE VERGE OF A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN by Pedro Almodovar (Spain 1988 – 1h30m) will be screened at Cinema La Gran Guardia.

The film will be introduced by writer Michele Cecchini. The appointment is as usual at 9.15 am for breakfast, while the film screening will start at 10.30 am. Entrance ticket: 8 euros, breakfast included.

Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown (Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios), starring Carmen Maura, Antonio Banderas, Julieta Serrano, Rossy De Palma, Maria Barranco, is the story of a woman who is about to be abandoned by her lover, a famous film dubber. While trying to track him down, she meets the lover’s son, a friend who believes she is being pursued by the police, and finally her ex-lover’s new flame.

The film received an Oscar nomination, won an award at the Silver Ribbons, and was awarded at the Venice Film Festival, with 1 nomination at the Golden Globes.

Pedro Almodóvar (Pedro Almodóvar Caballero) born on September 25, 1949 in Ciudad Real (Spain) is a director, producer, writer, screenwriter. In 2020, he received the award for Best Original Screenplay at the Goya Awards for the film Pain and Glory. From 1988 to 2020, Pedro Almodóvar has won 8 awards: European Film Awards (2013), Cannes Film Festival (1999, 2006), Venice Film Festival (1988), Goya Awards (2020), Silver Ribbons (2002), Oscar (2003).

Michele Cecchini born in Lucca, graduated in Literature from the University of Pisa with a thesis on Leopardi and the moon, teaches literary subjects at a high school in Livorno.

With the Erasmus publishing house, he published his first novel in 2010, From April to Shantih, which opened in Prague a series of presentations of debut authors organized by the Dante Alighieri Society. In 2015, he published his second novel, For the Good I Want You, again for the Erasmus publishing house. Presented in many Italian cities, in Canada and in the United States, it was “Book of the Day” on the program Fahrenheit aired on Rai RadioTre. In 2017, he wrote the theatrical monologue Pizzicotti, directed and performed by Nicoletta La Terra of the “Compagnia dei Masnadieri”. Also in 2017, he collaborated on writing the lyrics for the album by Bobo Rondelli Anime storte. In 2019, 2021, and 2023 his latest novels “The Sky For Last,” “And this is nothing,” and “A sudden bite” published by Bollati Boringhieri.
