F. Mendelssohn Symphony No. 2 in B-flat major “Lobgesang”
(Hymn of Praise) for soloists, choir, orchestra and organ op. 52

Performed for the first time on 25th June 1840 in Leipzig, in the church of St. Thomas, sacred to the glory of Bach, Mendelssohn’s symphony-cantata initially had some difficulties entering the repertoire, perhaps also due to Wagner’s harsh judgment of it.
It will only be thanks to the work of Hans von Bülow, a great orchestra conductor, that this work by the German composer will enter among the great works to be known.
