The tale of how discomfort dramatically breaks into a family’s life, forever disrupting it. These are the first words that Marco Tullio Giordana, a renowned director, screenwriter, and writer, uses to describe his latest work, the movie “La vita accanto”, a drama lasting 1 hour and 54 minutes, scheduled for Friday, September 6 starting at 9:30 pm at Cinema Teatro 4 Mori. “The central theme – Giordana continues – is the body, whose acceptance is the basis of every identity, and how its possible imperfections (real? imaginary? induced by the gaze of others?) can even lead to violation in order to modify it according to the canons of an illusion.”
Before the screening, Giordana will be present in the theater for an interview conducted by Marco Bruciati to delve deeper into the theme. The plot: inspired by Mariapia Veladiano’s novel “La vita accanto” (Einaudi, 2010), the film is set in Vicenza between the Eighties and the Two Thousand. It tells the story of a rich vicentine family composed of Maria (Valentina Bellè), her husband Osvaldo (Paolo Pierobon), and his twin sister, Erminia (Sonia Bergamasco), a famous pianist. After years of trying, Maria finally gives birth to Rebecca, eagerly anticipated. But the newborn, otherwise very normal and also very beautiful, has a noticeable purple mark covering half of her face. This deformity becomes such an obsession for Maria that she rejects her own maternal instinct. Rebecca’s adolescence would be marked by shame and isolation, if she didn’t reveal extraordinary musical talents from a young age instead. The artistic director Serena Cassarri: “A great film and a great person that I am very happy to host in our spaces to allow our viewers a live commentary from one of the greatest Italian directors.”
