Landing at San Jacopo – traditional festival to greet the arrival of pilgrims

On Saturday, July 6th the traditional festival “Landing at San Jacopo” returns to greet the arrival of pilgrims with music, dances, arts, and crafts.At 7pm a Holy Mass will be celebrated in the church of San Jacopo in Acquaviva, followed by Gregorian chants and the significant communal rite of delivering Credentials for those departing for Santiago and for all other walks. The Credentials can be requested on the same Saturday, but it is also possible to book them in advance at the number 348 3326624.
The evening will continue at 9.30 pm with a historical reenactment that will retrace the return from Santiago de Compostela of two pilgrims, Tebaldo and Mediovillano with the relic of San Giacomo. The narrator will be Michele Crestacci. The tale will be accompanied by a stage representation with the landing of a rowboat carrying the relic, while in the background a trail of boats will create a sea luminary. The story will be interspersed with medieval dances in costume.

The event will also feature stalls with costumed performers reliving ancient crafts and exhibiting typical and artisanal products. There will also be a medieval refreshment area (for reservations 349 6224011).

From 5pm to 10pm there will be the possibility to take guided extraordinary visits to the crypt of San Jacopo (reservation recommended at 3341469288).

The realization of the event, which has received the patronage of Livorno Municipality, involved numerous organizations: nautical section San Jacopo, Vivi San Jacopo association, La Livornina association, Il Gioiello Dimenticato association, Confraternity of San Jacopo di Compostella, Circolo della Pesca, Moletto Nazario Sauro, Zona 3 Council.
