The Cage is getting ready to welcome 2023 with three nights of music between live performances and DJ sets. It starts on Friday, December 29th with the music festival by Inner Animal Recordings, continues on Saturday, December 30th with the first time at The Cage for Steenfies, and concludes with the big New Year’s party branded sCool Party
At the end of the year, the minifestival branded Inner Animal Recordings arrives at The Cage, the independent label that was born a second time in 2023 and, after a long break, has returned to circulate effective liquids through different conduits that hybridize music, visual art, and multimedia. A multifaceted and multi-expressive reality that has become a production and recording studio and a hub for the organization and coordination of events, also taking care of communication and multimedia production. From producing video clips for bands to educational projects, Inner Animal Recordings is always looking for new collaborations to find new languages and new mechanisms for the enjoyment and dissemination of music, something that goes beyond traditional channels. Thanks to the collaboration with The Cage, the theater of Villa Corridi will host this small but well-curated music festival that will mix a live performance and two DJ sets, and will also feature a merchandise corner with items produced by the performing bands, such as t-shirts and stickers. The live performance will alternate three musical realities on stage: Beppe Scardino, also known as Tyto, a multi-instrumentalist and Livorno-based producer who takes the stage wearing an owl mask and plays the saxophone, creating wild arrangements with synthesizers and wind instruments. An artist who is capable of mixing deep bass and drum machines with jazz phrases and glitch effects, as if the speakers were about to burst at any moment. The Candydates, a rock band formed by four musicians from the Livorno scene who come from different experiences; two singers and songwriters, a jazz-loving drummer, and a bass-playing guitarist with different musical backgrounds and passions, but who share a love for analog culture and always record everything live. And then Inframell0w, an Italian project by solo artist Tommaso La Rocca, who dresses in a new wave but more electronic sound, infused with dream pop, raw shoegaze and nugaze. Before and after the live performance, there will be DJ sets by Giovani Eroi vs Veci de Mierda to dance until late at night: there will be two DJ areas with The Cage’s first DJ Michael Rotondi, aka Mr Cj, and guest El Niño de Nugola in the indoor room, where the music will range from 1993 to 2007, and The Cage’s last DJ Trouble Kidd under the Magic Tent, playing contemporary music for a young audience. Tickets can be purchased directly at the ticket office for 10 euros, first drink included.
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 30th – The Saturday of The Cage is dedicated to new music proposals, and this time it brings on stage a young band of very young Livorno musicians, the Steenfies. Formed less than a year ago, the four members are between 20 and 22 years old: reluctant to labels, they make music that combines pop and punk-rock and, despite a name that recalls an arrogant and somewhat snobbish vein, they are types who definitely like to have fun and make noise. The band consists of Edoardo Menicagli on vocals and guitar, Giacomo Torbidoni on drums, Simone Golfarini on electric guitar, and Alessandro Calabrò on electric bass. Opening the concert for these four guys from Salviano will be KeMee, the pseudonym of Michele Burgalassi, a Livorno music producer and DJ since 2003. KeMee developed a love for electronic and hip hop music from a young age, thanks to dance, from which his taste and original sounds in his songs originated. Since 2020, he has been collaborating with Miriam Flaminia Cassarino, aka Flamen, who still represents the main voice of his productions. KeMee is also a co-founder of the KomBo Studio Project, a Livorno-based production and recording studio that aims to create a community of hip hop and electronic music lovers. The concert starts at 22:30, and tickets can be purchased via TicketSms for 10 euros, first drink included.
SUNDAY, DECEMBER 31st – Thanks to the collaboration between The Cage and sCool Party, the city of Livorno will once again have its alcohol-free New Year’s party: as promised by the organizers, for the end of 2023, the Teatrino di Villa Corridi will be available to all students from Livorno schools who want to have fun together in a safe environment. The doors of The Cage will open again for sCool Party on the night between 2023 and 2024, and the younger ones will be able to have a party just for them, based on wholesome fun, open to all, without prejudices and barriers, where alcoholic drinks will not be served, and where the desire to have fun and be together to welcome the new year is the only focus: Those who dance on New Year’s Eve, dance all year round! The event is scheduled for 22:00 (doors close at 3:00 am), and tickets are available for pre-sale through the sCool Party PRs via the list of followers and in Instagram stories; cost is 20 euros, first non-alcoholic drink included.
