MareDiVino XXII edition

From Slow Food presidia to “forgotten” grape varieties, a unique opportunity to reflect, taste and buy the excellences of the territory. A true “seaside view” immersion in the scents and flavors of Tuscany: it lands at the Livorno Cruise Terminal, the 12th edition of MareDiVino.

The trade show market will be open on November 11th, 12th and 13th, with Monday reserved exclusively for industry professionals. It is organized by FISAR (Italian Federation of Sommeliers, Hoteliers and Restaurateurs) Livorno Delegation in collaboration with Slow Food Tuscany and Condotta di Livorno, with the support of the City of Livorno and Vetrina Toscana and the patronage of the Tuscany Region and Chamber of Commerce of Maremma and Tirreno. It benefits from the renewed twinning with the FIVI (Italian Federation of Independent Winemakers), which will be present with a representation of producers.

An opportunity for a “journey” to explore the great food and wine richness of this territory. Visitors will be able to taste the wines from the province of Livorno, especially those from Bolgheri and Val di Cornia, but also from neighboring areas such as Montescudaio and Riparbella, the areas of Terratico in Bibbona, and the Islands of Elba and Capraia. And this year, they will also be able to taste wines from Maremma, meeting producers firsthand who will be able to sell their own products at the counter.

In the gastronomic area, there will be products from farmers and livestock breeders who share and apply the principles of Slow Food of “good, clean and fair for all,” as well as 11 Slow Food presidia representing rare and endangered products.

A journey into taste, within reach of a “bite,” with some “historical” street foods such as tortello alla lastra from Corezzo and Panigaccio from Podenzana. All in line with the manifesto of Vetrina Toscana, the project of the Region, in collaboration with Unioncamere, which promotes food and wine tourism, with the production of Tuscany Tourism Promotion supported by the Tuscany System Foundation.

The tastings will open in the extraordinary setting of the Acquario di Livorno on Friday, November 10th at 9:00 PM with a masterclass featuring Cabernet Franc. Don’t miss the tasting on Saturday, November 11th at 3:00 PM, which celebrates the 250 years of Marsala, which this year has been recognized by Gambero Rosso as the “Best Meditation Wine.”

Also on Saturday, November 11th at 5:30 PM: “The Slow Wine Guide 2024. Regional presentation of the new edition of the snail-shaped guide.” Present will be Federico Varazi, vice president of Slow Food Italia; Gabriele Rosso, vice-national curator of the Slow Wine Guide; Fausto Ferroni, Vito Lacerenza, Stefano Ferrari, Fernando Pardini, regional curators of the Slow Wine Guide; Roberto Donadini, National President of FISAR; Daniela Filippi, Vice President of Slow Food Tuscany; Francesco Tapinassi, director of Tuscany Tourism Promotion; Valentina Gucciardo, President of Slow Food Livorno; Simone Franceschi, director of the magazine Il Sommelier; Lisa Marinai, delegate of FISAR Livorno.

On Sunday, November 12th at 3:00 PM, a tasting of the Slow Food Community of Pugnitello from the province of Grosseto, an ancient Tuscan grape variety (named after the shape of its bunch, resembling a small fist), rediscovered and studied in collaboration with the Universities of Florence and Pisa, a rare opportunity to taste an almost undiscoverable wine.

Wine is not just a drink, but also a topic to reflect on, especially in light of the recent phenomena that are changing the “geography” of the wine world. On Sunday, November 12th at 11:30 AM, don’t miss the round table discussion: “What weather will it be like? Climate change and new challenges in winegrowing,” with the participation of climatologist and scientific communicator Luca Mercalli, Prof. Claudio D’Onofrio, chair of Viticulture at the University of Pisa; oenologist Dr. Maurizio Castelli and Valentina Gucciardo, president of Slow Food Livorno, moderated by Fernando Pardini, journalist and regional curator of the Slow Wine Guide.

Another look at the future will be given on Sunday, November 12th at 5:00 PM: “Slow Wine Coalition. Together for the future of winegrowing.” Presentation of the Slow Wine Coalition manifesto and the 2024 edition of the Slow Wine Fair in Bologna, with the participation of Gabriele Rosso, vice-national curator of the Slow Wine Guide and Slow Wine Coalition, Daniela Filippi, representative of the Slow Wine Coalition Slow Food Tuscany; Valentina Gucciardo, President of Slow Food Livorno; Francesco Tapinassi, director of Tuscany Tourism Promotion.

Still on Sunday, November 12th at 1:00 PM, a toast to celebrate the territory, its wines, and the sea with the Cocktail MareDiVino, a novelty of this year with the awarding of certificates for the best “Cocktail MareDiVino” in collaboration with AIBES (Italian Association of Bartenders and Supporters). Finally, at 6:00 PM, “Good Red Wine for Everyone,” which will determine the best red wines with a price tag of less than €20, defined through blind tasting in which visitors can participate.

Once again this year, the trade show market extends its timeframe thanks to “Waiting for Mare
