Dramaturgy by Marco Voleri
Production in national premiere at the Mascagni FestivalThere is a barefoot child on a rock in Livorno crying silently, because in the open sea tears cannot be seen. That child will become Pietro Mascagni — and will never forget that lesson: music is born where pain finds no other words. Salt is an intimate journey through the life of one of the most beloved and contradictory composers in Italian history. An absent father, an abandoned conservatory, a wandering operetta company, a child dead at birth, another taken away by the war. And in the midst of all this, Cavalleria Rusticana — an opera written in just one night, capable of making half the world cry. A tale that is at once memories, confessions, and farewells. Because Salt is also a love story: that between a man and his sea, always present in every note, every wound, every return. The beauty of the sea is that it does not change. You are the one who changes.
