On the occasion of the Jubilee year, Agave, with the participation of the Municipality of Livorno and the Council of Zone 5, presents a schedule of guided tours that will highlight religious places and places of historical and artistic significance in the area.
From April to December, a rich program of tours will be offered dedicated both to Montenero and its Sanctuary, and to city itineraries that will highlight the Cathedral, the complex of Santa Giulia, the Churches of Santa Maria del Soccorso and the Church of Saints Peter and Paul.
This initiative stems from the desire to promote specially designed tourist offerings on the occasion of the Jubilee that enhance both places of worship with their decorative elements and selected city locations for this occasion, in order to offer cultural paths that lead to the discovery of the riches of the territory, its history, and its traditions.
The “Jubilee in Tour” calendar includes 10 guided tours that will alternate the following itineraries:
– The beautiful hill: Montenero and its Sanctuary
Livorno is the city of religions and one of the most important Italian shrines in the world is Montenero, with its church, ex-votos, and the Famedio. The guided tour will cover the beautiful Shrine of Our Lady of Montenero and its captivating history, the result of the alternation of different religious orders, dramatic events, and the strong devotion of a people, evidenced by the rich collection of sailors’ ex-votos, including information about the respective artists.
– Montenero: between sacred and profane
The fame of the hill of Montenero in the past was not only linked to the Sanctuary, but thanks to the pleasant places and the healthy air, between the 18th and 19th centuries, it was sought after as a holiday destination. The itinerary winds from Piazza della Carrozze, then reaches Upper Montenero by funicular, where the history of the Famedio and some villas that over time have hosted illustrious characters will be illustrated.
– The Cathedral, the Church of S. Giulia, and the Oratory of S. Ranieri
The tour will be an opportunity to admire the works of the Cathedral, the beating heart of the city, and the rich complex of Santa Giulia. It will then continue with a visit inside the highly decorated and refined environments of the Oratory of San Ranieri and the small but interesting museum of Santa Giulia, with the medieval table dedicated to the saint and other sacred furnishings.
– Livorno and its nineteenth-century temples
The visit will be dedicated to two of the most important churches built in the 19th century, the Church of San Maria del Soccorso and the Church of Saints Peter and Paul. The two temples preserve high-quality decorative schemes, including some important masterpieces by Enrico Pollastrini.
The first date of Jubilee in Tour is scheduled for Saturday, April 26, at 3:00 pm with the tour:
The beautiful hill: Montenero and its Sanctuary
Each guided tour will also be advertised on the Visit Livorno portal, in synergy with the Lem Foundation for a wider dissemination of the city’s tourism offer.
