The usual cultural meetings organized by the Library of the Vespucci-Colombo Institute continue. Friday, October 22nd, at 6:00 p.m., in the Great Hall of the Piazza Vigo headquarters, the CD “IT’S A LITTLE LATE, BUT…” by Maurizio Bigongiali will be presented, released a few days ago by Calasole Records.
To interact with the author will be Michele Cecchini. The event is organized in collaboration with Erasmo Libri.
The songs on the album “It’s a bit late, but…” are characterized by a constant search for oneself, continuous introspection, where questions are more important than answers. Within the tracks, the influences of the giants of Italian singer-songwriters from the 70s can clearly be seen, but the journey also embraces other styles: atmospheres and guitars with Floydian influences, the typical “in levare” rhythm of Jamaican Reggae music, precise references to classical music and English folk of the first half of the seventies and in particular to Robert Kirby.
Three guests appear on the album: Fabio Marchiori on organ and piano in “Reggae dei salmastrati”, where the character of the inhabitants of Marina di Pisa is explained. In the song “Dimentica”, the theme of neurodegenerative diseases is addressed, with Lila Madrigali, a composer and singer from Pisa, as guest vocals. Mattia Bigongiali played bass on “Qualcosa che ritorna”. Everything else is played, mixed and produced by the author himself.
Maurizio Bigongiali was born in Pisa in 1964. He has always lived in Marina di Pisa. He learned to play the guitar self-taught. Fascinated mainly by the figure and poetry of Fabrizio De Andrè, he deepened the work of other Italian singer-songwriters: Guccini, De Gregori, Dalla, and Gaber/Luporini. As an adult, he casually discovered Nick Drake and was struck by him. Thanks to this, he changed the way he played the guitar and relied on the fingerpicking technique.
